Hakim El Kadiri, the founder of Elka Watch, reveals a new project that actually predates the launch of the watchmaking brand. This ambitious endeavor, born from a chance encounter, has been in the works for three years. It all began in January 2021, when a Belgian friend gifted Hakim a three-year-old Belgian whisky. Despite his limited knowledge of whisky, Hakim was pleasantly surprised by it. Inspired, he decided to create a whisky from Neuchâtel. With guidance from an oenologist friend, Hakim set out to produce the whisky. He selected malt mash, distilled it, and chose oak barrels that had previously contained cognac. These barrels were resized into smaller formats to accelerate the aging process. The whisky aged for three years in a cellar near a small lake with a Celtic name, Loclat, which inspired the name "Loch Lat."
